In Celebration of Earth Day

In honor of Earth day lets talk about ACTUALLY being eco friendly

  • First, lots of people will talk about shutting off lights. For the most part please use adequate lighting to reduce the incidence of accidents. Not going to the emergency room is eco friendly, trust me.
  • Don’t shut off florescent lights unless you are leaving for a large amount of time, it actually does not save electricity.
  • Stop preheating your oven unless you are baking something special and delicate. You are going to save more electricity doing this once than you will all year by being strict with turning off lights.
  • We all know bottled water is not earth friendly but remember if you are bottling your own water you need to use tap water. The important part is the chlorine. (or you can streilize glass or metal bottles and boil the water)
  • In general, recycling is a sham. Recycle aluminum cans and glass bottles. Throw everything else away to save your municipality money. That’s called cash recycling.
  • Meat is made with plants you can’t eat anyway and part of a healthy diet. Make sure you eat enough meat and if you want to be healthy start with eliminating some junk food and exercising. Again it is earth friendly to be healthy. Eliminating meat from your diet is the nutrition equivalent of only running marathons for exercise.
  • Wrap your water heater.
  • Buy cheaper cars. Forget fuel effeciency, spending 70K on a car is insane. Buy a cheaper car and use the money to put effecient windows on your house. Or renovate your kitchen. Eating more home made meals is eco friendly.
  • When your toaster is broken buy a new one. Not burning your house down is eco friendly.
  • Plug appliances with transformers into power strips and shut off the power strips. Small amounts of power are consumed by transformers when they are off. Do not keep plugging and unplugging things, this wears out the socket. Again, not burning down the house is eco friendly.
  • Fuck your lawn.
  • Don’t spend too much time worrying about the earth. Make friends, have sex, pet a dog or feed a goat. Whats the point of saving a world if you can’t enjoy it?

How is “the Forge” like a cult?

Posted by Josh on February 18, 2010

Let me start by by saying that the Forge is not a cult.  (I
refer to the forge as a singular entity, I am aware it is
not.  But close enough for these purposes)

So why do people keep saying it?  I mean it is obviously a
    joke, right?

    Thanksgiving Turkey Tips

Posted by Josh on November 22, 2009

There are as many ways to cook turkey as there are stars in the sky. This will cover the cooking of the whole bird (Turkey breast is a whole other critter). Also, these are all techniques I have done several times (unless I say otherwise) and they focus on tastiness and easiness. With some consideration to healthiness.
